An increased drop in BP, both in SBP and DBP, after standing
up resulted in higher mortality risks (p-value for trend =0.001). n oisnetr
This association was significant from a drop in SBP of greater
than 30 mm Hg and drop in DBP of greater than 25 mm Hg.

The authors note that the duration and magnitude of orthostatic
hypotension could be seen as a marker of (decreased)
resilience in older patients independent of presence of geriatric
deficits and might give physicians additional insight in the life
expectancy of the patient. Differentiating between EOH and
DPOH, along with paying attention to the magnitude of drop in
BP, should be part of clinical practice, especially in the elderly.
Whether the duration of orthostatic hypotension and magnitude
of the drop in BP is causally related to mortality risk or whether it
is a sign of decreased resilience remains to be elucidated.
